PERMANENT PARKING ON THE GRASS, RESIDENTIAL ZONES PROHIBITED INCLUDING RECREATIONAL VEHICLES
By Robert C. Solera, Community Development Director
An ordinance that prohibits the parking of vehicles on lawns in the residential district is in effect in order to promote citywide beautification. This ordinance will also regulate the parking of vehicles on publicly maintained properties. The City includes boat, boat trailers as part of the definition of a vehicle. As such this ordinance applies to these types of equipments.
The Department will be stepping up the enforcement of this ordinance in the single family zones of the City. The Department has observed that existing driveways are not being used for the intended purpose. Instead the existing driveways are empty at times and vehicles are being parked on the grass area adjacent to them. The Department has also observed that residents are parking recreational vehicles such as boats or jet skies over grass areas as well.
Any work to correct or comply with the requirements of the Ordinance may require a building permit. Prior to any work being performed, all residents are required to contact the Building Department to acquire information in reference to the requirements.
The Building Department will be available to all owners and residents to answer any questions in reference to the construction and development of driveways on private property, and the Code Enforcement and Licensing Department is available to respond to any questions related to the enforcement of the ordinance indicated above. The Code Enforcement and Licensing Department’s number is (305) 792-1705 and the Building Department’s number is (305) 947-2150.
The Department will also like to remind residents that swale areas in other words right of ways adjacent to their property (see diagram below), are areas required to be maintained by the property owner as outlined on Section 19-4 Miami Dade County Code as adopted by the City of Sunny Isles Beach.
The joint efforts of the City Commission and of those residents who wish to beautify the City are beginning to come to fruition. If we all work together, all residential areas will be even more attractive and our City will continue effectively moving forward towards citywide beautification.
If you have any questions or concerns in reference to this issue please contact the Code Enforcement and Licensing Department at (305) 792-1705.
