From the desk of Lewis Thaler
By Vice Mayor Lewis J. Thaler
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the residents of Sunny Isles Beach for their confidence and for allowing me to continue as your Commissioner. I will continue to represent you in the same way in the next four years as I did in the last four years.
The dedication of the Pelican Community Park is scheduled for November 17, 2007 and everybody is invited. Time and location of the dedication will be printed in the Sunny Isles Beach newspaper as well as being on SIB TV Cable Channel 77, our own TV news station.
Activity on the school is going strong and did you notice the first part of the wall was put up? It is very exciting and the school committee is working with the new principal and the Miami-Dade school board in getting everything ready for the 1000 students we are expecting (K-6 grade) next year. Seventh grade will start in 2009 and eighth grade will start in 2010.
For all residents who have homestead status, your tax bill should reflect a 7 to 8 percent drop for 2007-2008.
The Fairmont-Turnberry Condominium and Condo Hotel at 185 Street and Collins Avenue will be 40 stories high and have all their parking within the building. There will be no parking across the street on the west side as they first requested. Work on the building will begin in the next few months and it is expected to be finished within two years.
As always, please feel free to stop by my office or call me at 305 792-1700. I will be happy to answer any question you might have.
