News from the beach
Beach condition hotline - new
By Justin Broman, Lead Lifeguard, SIB Ocean Rescue

If you are home and wondering what kind of day it is out on the beach, you can now find out right at your fingertips. Sunny Isles Beach Ocean Rescue has a new Beach Condition Hotline - 305.792.1940. This phone line provides you with the local forecast and preventative measures to ensure you and your family’s safety while visiting our beach. The report starts with the high and low tides, air and water temperatures, and continues with wind speed and wind direction. It also lets you know about possible rain, lightning, waves or rip currents, and if there are any beach closures.
Most importantly, you can find out the color of the warning flags being flown at our lifeguard towers at the present time and if there are any types of dangerous marine life in the water, such as jellyfish. There will be beach safety tips that could be useful prior to your arrival at the beach.
The Cultural & Human Services Department will also add in segments of any upcoming programs or events. The Beach Condition Hotline will be updated every day at 9:30 a.m. with the opening of our lifeguard towers. But remember, BEACH CONDITIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT ANY TIME. For the most current information, check with a lifeguard.
Sunny Isles Beach lifeguards focus on preventions in order to avoid rescues, so this will be a great tool to communicate important information to you and your family. It will forewarn you of conditions or possible dangers. If you ever have any questions about beach conditions, please ask the lifeguards on the beach. The lifeguards are here to make sure you have a fun, safe, and worry-free day.
Remember: always swim near a lifeguard.
