Sunny Isles Beach Building Department Expands Service

In a continuing effort to meet the needs of the community, within the past year the City of Sunny Isles Beach’s Building Department hired two full-time Building Inspectors, and expanded its operating hours. The most recently hired full-time building inspectors are James Hill and Ismael Naranjo.

Hired Two New Full-Time Inspectors
PIC In 1982 Mr. Hill obtained his Building Inspector and Plan Review License from the State of Florida. After working in construction and the private sector until April 1990 he started working with the City of Fort Lauderdale where he worked until December 2004 when he was hired by the City of Sunny Isles Beach as a building inspector. Mr. Hill is an active member of the Florida Association of Building Officials.

PIC Since 2001 Mr. Naranjo worked for Miami-Dade County – first as a building inspector and then as a plan’s examiner. In December 2004 the City of Sunny Isles Beach hired Mr. Naranjo as a full-time building inspector.

With the addition of these two full-time inspectors, the turnaround time for permit approvals and reviews has dramatically improved. Building inspections are now being performed in the mornings and afternoons. Both inspectors are available in the office until 9:00 a.m. everyday for questions, comments and suggestions. Expanded Hours of Operation
Many contractors start their day early and as a service to them the Department is opening one hour earlier in the morning. The Permitting and Licensing Counter is now open to the public from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Please note that entrance to the building between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. is by way of the parking garage on Floors 2 or 3.)

Another change includes scheduling appointments for those not able to come in during the regular hours of operation. The Building Department is now available by appointment between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. To schedule an appointment call (305) 947-2150.
