Detective Howell receives recognition from By FBI National Director

FBI National Director Robert Muller recently recognized one Sunny Isles Beach detective for his exemplary and extraordinary efforts during a prolonged investigation to successfully dismantle a large scale and complex insurance fraud business.

Detective Bill Howell, a veteran officer of the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department has been detached as a detective to the local office of the FBI for several years. During that time, he has unselfishly taken time from his family and participated in several large investigations that ultimately led to the arrest of several subjects involved in complex criminal activity including the aforementioned.

In the above case a number of local businesses, including one branch in Sunny Isles Beach, were involved in a bogus insurance fraud that bilked companies of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Of course, we all know who ultimately pays the price for that; we do in the form of higher rates and costs.

Long term investigations such as these are difficult on the personal life as well. It is time away from the family and often times days off are cancelled due to the investigation. Unfortunately, the family suffers but that is our job. Kids don’t always understand that especially when it’s a birthday party or a special event that is missed by mom or dad.

Therefore we commend and thank Detective Howell for this award and for his positive portrayal as one of Sunny Isles Beach Police finest.
