Incumbent Mayor and City Commissioner Reelected
By Jane A. Hines, City Clerk

Mayor Norman S. Edelcup and Commissioner Roslyn Brezin were automatically reelected to serve on the Sunny Isles Beach City Commission when no one filed as a candidate to run against either of them by the September 15, 2005 qualifying deadline.

However, the City will have a city-wide election on November 8, 2005. Incumbent Commissioner Gerry Goodman will face candidate Jack Cohen in a bid for City Commissioner Seat 2. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and only registered voters of the City may vote in this election. Miami-Dade County Voter Registration Forms are available in my Office. The deadline to submit registration forms for this election is Monday, October 10, 2005 by 5:00 p.m. (Voter Registration Forms must be mailed or delivered to the Miami-Dade County Elections Department.)

Mayor Edelcup will begin serving a four-year term, after having served the remainder of (former) Mayor David Samson’s term. Mayor Samson passed away while in office. Commissioner Brezin, who was appointed by Mayor Edelcup to fill the seat he vacated when he became Mayor, will also serve a four-year term.

City-wide election scheduled for
Tuesday, November 8, 2005
for Residential Area Commissioner – Seat 2.

Note: According to the City Charter,
the person filling this position
must live in Residential Area 2, and
all eligible voters residing in the City
participate in the election.
