Chief Fred Maas Named Interim City Manager

At the October 11, 2005 Commission Meeting, the City Commission unanimously voted to appoint Chief Fred Mass to serve as Interim City Manager.

After five years of dedicated service to Sunny Isles Beach, Christopher Russo resigned from the position of City Manager, to enter the private sector. At the Commission Meeting, the Commission acknowledged Mr. Russo’s accomplishments and thanked him for his service.

The City Commission is in the process of selecting candidates for the City Manager position Beginning October 20, 2005 until the is position is filled Chief Maas will serve dual roles: 1) as Interim City Manager, and 2) as Chief of Police.

Chief Maas has been with the City since 1998 and helped establish the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department. Under his leadership the agency has won recognition on the local and national levels.
