After One Year in Office
By Commissioner Lewis Thaler

Commissioner Lewis J. ThalerBeing a commissioner for one year has been very rewarding and I enjoy working for you, the people
of Sunny Isles Beach.

Education and School Committee Report
One Wednesday, the 22nd of September, the Education and School Committee, headed by Bob Welsh, recommended to the Commission that we should move forward with a public school for the approximately 1600 children in K-8. The work of this committee was extraordinary and I personally wish to thank them for all their time and efforts so far. I look forward to continually working with them.

New Street Lights
I am happy to tell you that new street lights will soon be put up on 158 and 174 Streets. We may have a delay in FP&L connecting the power due to their efforts in the parts of the state damaged by the four hurricanes this season

Ocean Walk Proposed
As many of you are aware, a meeting was held by the Sunny Isles Beach Civic, Cultural and Beautification Trust, headed by Herb Abramson. He and Mr. O’Leary, a Consultant, presented the idea of an ocean walk going from the Thunderbird Hotel, 186 Street south to 156 Street. The width would be between 8 to 10 feet and will be made up of crushed sea shells. Because of the turtles and their migration, there will not be any additional lighting or additional bathrooms added to our beach.

The cost of this is not confirmed as of this date and it is now up to the Committee to either have additional meetings or present the proposal to the Commission.

Tai-Chi Classes on the Beach
The other morning, while walking the beach as I usually do, I saw residents and workers from Sunny Isles Beach City Hall performing Tai-Chi. Open to all residents this program is scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Come on down and try it.

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Scheduled
The City is sponsoring a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Ellen Wynne Beach Access, 193rd Street and Collins Avenue on Friday, October 29th at 9:00 am. All are welcome.

Remember, I am only too glad to answer any questions or try to help you with any problems you may have. Call me at City Hall, 305-947-0606.
