September Brings
Back the Sunny Serenade Season
By Susan Simpson,
Cultural & Human
Services Director
Wednesday,
September 29, 2004 started off the new Sunny Serenade Series with some
Salsa to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Along with the Salsa, the
city passed out Sunny Isles Beach maracas to all attendees so that
they could shake along with the music.
To complement the music, Top One Dance Machine provided some professional
dancing entertainment. Unfortunately, rain arrived a little early and
washed out our younger dancing sensations from the Top One Dance Machine
school of dance. We hope to bring them back at another Sunny Serenade
so that they may show us the special dance that they put together just
for us.
In addition to all of the dancing and music, we were honored with a
special guest. Helen Rubin chose to spend her 90th Birthday with us at
the concert. In appreciation, everyone joined in to sing her a couple
of rousing renditions of Happy Birthday. She was wished a very happy
birthday personally by all of the Commissioners, Police Chief Fred Maas
and her special friend Richard Schulman, our city historian. Happy Birthday
Helen! And we hope to see you at many more Sunny Serenades!
