City of Sunny Isles Logo

From the desk of Lewis Thaler
By Commissioner Lewis J. Thaler

Commissioner Lewis J. ThalerEven with the turn-down of the housing market, Sunny Isles Beach continues to move along and continues to grow. In October two very different buildings were approved by the Commission on first reading. One is a 40 story complex at 157th Street called The Chi. It will consist of 38 units and each unit can have its swimming pool. The other building is a marina complex on Sunny Isles Blvd. (167th street) and is named SIB Marina. It will consist of 230 units, a restaurant and shops and will have a high rise boat dock. That means you can press a code in your apartment and your boat is brought down to the water automatically.

The City is having a workshop on December 15th to show and receive ideas for the park planned at 192nd street and Collins Avenue. All are welcome to attend the workshop which will be held at the Commission Chambers at 6:30 PM.

On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone who called, sent cards or just wished Madi and me well during her recent surgery. She is recovering and doing very well. Madi asked me to let you know how much all your good thoughts and prayers helped in her recovery.

Also if you saw the October 2 issue of this newspaper, you read that a beach access is being named for Cecile Sippin, a long-time activist for the City of Sunny Isles Beach. Unfortunately Cecile passed away October 23 after a battle with cancer. She will be missed.
