“Life in the City”
Back in ‘fall swing’
By Bari Auerbach
You can tell fall has arrived in most cities throughout the U.S. by dipping temperatures, autumn leaves and brisk sweater sales – but here in Sunny Isles Beach, there are unique signs the city is back in “fall swing”...
*It’s getting hotter...A heat wave this time of year always makes us feel like gloating just a bit when we talk to friends up north. This just in...Weather forecasters are predicting a “cold front” dropping our temperatures all the way down to the low 80s!! Bathing suits and flip flops sure beat boots and overcoats – there’s just one “wardrobe malfunction.” Right now, most area department stores are featuring clothes suitable for blizzards...Ever wonder why the buyers think we’d want to wear winter clothes to the beach??
*It’s bumper to bumper...For another sure sign the “season” is upon us, just get in your car and try to navigate through all the traffic! But one really good thing about the return of the snowbirds is the extra motivation they’re giving us to be more punctual since now everyone has to leave early just to have a shot at getting where we’re going on time! Of course, savvy Sunny Isles Beach residents know the quickest route to stress-free traveling is taking advantage of the city’s own convenient shuttle bus service!
*It’s getting darker earlier...The good news is now that “after dark” is happening sooner, we’ll have even more time to enjoy the “nightlife” around town! Too bad there aren’t many places that stay open long after lights go out in Winston Towers condo windows!
*It’s time to vote...November elections will determine who will be Florida’s next Governor...Let’s hope enough people actually turnout so at least one candidate can get enough votes to win! Fortunately, here in Sunny Isles Beach, voter turnout is not always something to worry about since no one seems to be interested in opposing incumbents doing such a great job like Mayor Norman S. Edelcup, Commissioner Danny Iglesias and Vice Mayor Roslyn Brezin - all re-elected unopposed!
*It’s ratings sweeps...All the new shows on TV are premiering and hits from last season are back with exciting new episodes. But why be glued to those when you can tune into the city’s own cable station SIB TV, Channel 77? Just some of the program highlights include Traffic and Beach Safety, Living Green, Community Spotlight, Community Code, and the big show everyone pops the popcorn for: City Commission meetings featuring an all-star cast of committed elected officials, dedicated department heads and concerned citizens.
*It’s holiday time...With Thanksgiving already right around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about things you’re thankful for...For those lucky enough to reside in Sunny Isles Beach, the list could include feeling a tremendous amount of gratitude for the “little things” like the fact that restrooms will be added to Town Center Park! And when it comes to holiday shopping, here’s a bright idea that could save a lot of time and money...Just send everyone on your list the name of a really good realtor. Right now it’s a “buyer’s market” and the greatest gift anyone could ever get is a Sunny Isles Beach address!
