My Community Your Community
By Mary Ann Eicke

PRECINCT 4 Parents where are you?

Mary Ann EickeI am so excited that many of you were at the polls this past Election Day. I was especially pleased with the turn out in precinct 4 (those voters who voted at the Intracoastal). Your VOTE does Count, and YOU CAN make a difference. I was quite surprised while standing in line to find that the residents were not aware of the impact you can make in our city. This precinct previously only had 92 registered voters, and maybe 25 people actually came out to vote. This election we had over 670 voters turn out to vote.

I was however disappointed this week when speaking to Commission Thaler (he is the liaison commissioner to the Mayor Advisory Council Education/School Committee) to find out that no parents from our precinct are participating in the meeting for our new school. Precinct 4 possibly has more children than any other precinct.

Parents your input is vital to the formation of our future school. Your voice needs to be heard. Are you concerned with the information and methods being taught in our schools? What about class sizes? The decisions made by this committee are going to impact our community and more importantly your children for years to come. OUR CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE!

Commissioner Thaler would like to hear from you personally. He advised me that he is available to hear you concerns and is seeking your input. Do you have a vision for our City? Sunny Isles Beach is still a small hometown community.

Come out, get involved, you’ll be pleasantly surprised that your voice does count and you can make a difference.
