‘Little Things Go Unnoticed’
By Bari Auerbach
Sunny Isles Beach has been getting a lot of exciting exposure lately due to all the progressive initiatives enhancing life in the city. But what about the little things that often go unnoticed? Here are examples of just some of the human interest stories that really deserve some notoriety too…
Good Deeds – Every day in Sunny Isles Beach, someone steps up and does something unexpectedly nice that deserves some positive press...Like right now, I’m sure a sweet lady at Publix will decide not to chastise the man in front of her for having more than ten items in the express lane….Such good deeds could inspire the headline: “Sunny IslesBeach is warm - and friendly!”
Big Portions – Some Sunny Isles Beach restaurants certainly don’t scrimp when it comes to serving oversized portions – making diners very happy about the big value. That’s why there ought to be a feature story in the paper with a headline like: ‘Giant deli sandwich feeds family of 12!”
Late Night Meetings – Not too many people know that members of the Sunny Isles Beach City Commission and city staff often stay up quite late to finish City Commission meetings with packed agendas…It’s a good thing a resolution to start meetings one hour earlier at 6:30 p.m. was recently approved – otherwise there could have been a headline like this: “Mayor and Commissioners fall asleep at dais before pivotal vote!”
End of Jaywalking? – No matter how hard the city tries to beautify the medians along Collins Avenue with lush landscaping, there will always be irreverent jaywalkers who run over the flowers and then risk suffering the same fate. But they may be persuaded to use the city’s designated crosswalks if all the local papers pick up on news that the city will soon be getting the latest, high-tech countdown signals making it even safer for pedestrians to cross Collins. Wouldn’t it be nice to see this headline: “City rings in the New Year with countdown signals!”
Healthy and Wealthy – A recent audit report revealed the City of Sunny Isles Beach is in excellent financial health – so don’t you think this headline should make front page news: “City stuffs surplus funds in mattresses borrowed from beachfront resorts!”
All Aboard! – By popular demand, the city has decided to continue planning holiday yacht cruises departing from Bella Vista Bay Park on Sunny Isles Boulevard. Now this is exactly the kind of fun activity that should be highly publicized with the headline: “Don’t miss the boat - enjoy the highest quality of life in Sunny Isles Beach!”
