Registration for Sunny Isles Beach Community School

By Dr. Annette WeissmanAnnette Weisman

Excitement is everywhere! Parents, students and administrators all have great big smiles on their faces as students register for Sunny Isles Beach Community School. The enrollment of students signals the start of a new era in Sunny Isles Beach as everyone prepares for the opening of our new school.

Who needs to register?
Any child who resides within the Sunny Isles Beach Community School boundaries and is not presently enrolled in the Miami-Dade Public Schools must register for the 2008-2009 school year. So, if your child is currently in a private school, or relocating here from another country or state, or is entering kindergarten, you must register your child. If your child is presently enrolled in a Miami-Dade Public School and resides within the Sunny Isles Beach Community School boundaries, he/she will automatically be enrolled in the new school.

What papers do you need to bring to registration?
1) Original or certified copy of birth certificate;
2) Proof of address (2) required F P & L Bill and one of the following:
Lease, Warranty Deed, or Homestead exemption;
3) Both Blue and Yellow Medical HRS Forms (Blue is immunizations and Yellow is proof of physical and TB screening)
4) If appropriate, last report card, and any standardized test scores or special educational programs
5) For grade placement into Kindergarten your child must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2008.

Where do I register my child?
Parents are able to register their children in the main office at Ojus Elementary School located at 18600 West Dixie Highway. Call Ms. Alvarez at 305.931.4881, Extension 112 for an appointment. Parents should check the Sunny Isles Beach Community School website at www.sib.dadeschools.net for the latest registration information.

What about the Voluntary Pre-K program?
At this time, there is no funding for the Voluntary Pre-K program and we are unable to accept any registrations.

Still have questions?
You can email Dr. Annette Weissman at aweissman@dadeschools.net with any questions you have about the registration process.

What’s next? Very shortly, we will announce our first PTA meeting and I hope to see all of you there. For now, the school will be communicating with parents through the SIBCS website and the press. You may also receive prerecorded messages through the Miami-Dade County’s automated telephone system. The campus is blossoming! The SIBCS family is growing! The enthusiasm and energy is exploding! The SIBCS Seahawks are destined for success!
