‘Proclamations’
Water Conservation Day…Police Chief Fred Maas Day…Alzheimer’s Awareness Day…The Sunny Isles Beach City Commission routinely presents special proclamations honoring outstanding achievements and recognizing important initiatives or events - But here are some suggestions for new proclamations everybody in the city could benefit from…
Go to the Beach Day – Wouldn’t it be great if the City Commission proclaimed that one day every month, Sunny Isles Beach citizens would be entitled to take off from work to go to the beach?! On the designated day, Government Center could set up “trade your business suit for a bathing suit” changing rooms - and maybe even Coppertone might be a sponsor and give out free bottles of suntan lotion!
Ticket Amnesty Day – Imagine if the City Commission proclaimed that once a year, all outstanding fines for traffic tickets would be waived…The holiday season would be a good time for “Ticket Amnesty Day” so people would have more money to spend on gifts like souvenir Sunny Isles Beach t-shirts and visors!
Double Pay Day – By proclaiming a day when employees could receive double the amount of their normal paychecks, the City Commission could help Sunny Isles Beach residents have a bit more spending money. This in turn would bolster the economy and garner international notoriety to the city for creating a record day on Wall Street!
Meet Your Neighbor Day – Since promoting “community unity” is one of the City Commission’s goals, proclaiming a “Meet Your Neighbor Day” would be a great way to encourage residents to get to know each other. A new website like Facebook called “Sunnybook” could be created and residents would be able to log on at city parks where Internet access is now available for free!
Good Grade Day – To help encourage students at the new Sunny Isles Beach Community School to study hard, the City Commission could proclaim “Good Grade Day.” Special incentives to get A’s and B’s might include tickets to see Hannah Montana or the Jonas Brothers at a fantasy Sunny Serenade concert – or a chance to win a starring role on Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?
No Tow-Away Day – In partnership with RK Shopping Centers, it would sure be nice if the City Commission could proclaim a “No Tow-Away Day” so people could park at one shopping center and walk over to the next with a guarantee that their car would still be there when they got back.
Have a Great Day! – There’s really no need for a proclamation like this because the sentiment “Have a Great Day!” comes to life every day for those lucky enough to call Sunny Isles Beach home!
