Kiwanis - Kids Help the Community

The students at Sunny Isles Beach Community School had an opportunity to learn an important lesson not found in a text book. The members of the K-Kids learned how special it feels to do something for someone else; to improve someone’s life.

These students joined forces with the Parent Teacher Student Association and sorted the hundreds of food items donated by the entire school in order to prepare Thanksgiving Baskets for needy families at the school and in the community.  On Tuesday afternoon, the K-Kids stayed after school and distributed the canned goods, produce, and bakery items into 55 hand-decorated boxes.

On Wednesday, the PTSA added the turkeys, which were donated by Kiwanis of North Miami Beach/Sunny Isles Beach and Key Club of Michael Krop High School, before the families arrived to secure their holiday treats.  Dr. Annette Weissman, Principal, applauded the children who donated the items as well as the K-Kids who assembled the baskets.

These young citizens understand that they have a responsibility to reach out to less fortunate families and recognize that they can make a difference in their community regardless of their age.
