Not long ago I wrote about this energetic lady who never stopped giving. The American Woman, yesterday, today and tomorrow. This remains true as she has touched hearts and minds locally and internationally.
A “Celebration of Life” could describe the mindset of Ellen Wynne, resident of Sunny Isles Beach since 1952. From this setting she reared four children and was active in her community, being named Dade County’s Outstanding Citizen for 1969. Some of her untiring accomplishments included helping establish Hemophiliac Clinics in Miami, California, Venezuela and Japan. This brought her accolades including being named “The American Woman” in 1976 with a bicentennial highlight on CBS National Television.
A pronounced advocate for Sunny Isles Beach becoming a city, Ellen was appointed to the Citizens Planning Advisory Committee in 1999 and was an honorary member of the city’s Historic Preservation Board. As the city’s longest living resident, along with her daughter Merry, Ellen was recognized at the City’s 10th Anniversary Celebration in June 1997.
Ellen was a woman who all her life, amidst nine siblings, enjoyed a good laugh, and always had a good book to recommend.
We are sad to say goodbye to this energetic lady who celebrated her 90th birthday on December 2, 2008 and passed away December 22, 2008. It is only fitting to remember her with a Celebration of Life: Please join her family Saturday, January 17, 2009; 10:00 a.m., Ellen Wynne Beach Access, 192nd Street and Collins Avenue, Sunny Isles Beach, Florida.
