City Advisory Commitee Sunny Isles Beach

The April City Advisory Committee was attended by Mayor Norman Edelcup, Vice Mayor Lewis Thaler, Commissioners Roslyn Brezin and Gerry Goodman. Also attending was Rick Conner, Acting City Manager, who answered many of the questions presented by committee chairman, Harvey Bush and the other committee member.

Bob Welsh reported that he received advice from both Senator Dan Gelber and House Representative Richard Steinberg concerning the “Red Light Camera Program” that there is a bill being proposed in the Florida House of Representatives that will allow municipalities to mount cameras on state owned right-of-ways. In addition the committee was informed that the viaduct at Collins Avenue and Sunny Isles Beach Boulevard is scheduled to be painted this summer.

Mayor Edelcup, in response from the question from Committee member, Loretta Mufson regarding the need for programs that would help address the needs of our city’s teenagers, stated that the city plans to construct a skate park in the back section of Town Center Park which would be also available for skateboarding.

Mayor Edelcup also requested volunteers for the “International POW WOW” event that will be held May 16-20, at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Volunteer who must be over 18 years old should contact Ibis Romero at (305) 947-0606 or visit www.GMCVB.com.

The City Advisory Committee also is seeking volunteers for its various important sub-committees, those wishing to join should attend the next Committee meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 6:30 PM at the Town Hall, first floor Meeting Room.
