Life in the City

By Bari Auerbach

"Dear Sunny Isles Beach'

If there was a Sunny Isles Beach advice column, you just might see intriguing questions and informative answers like these:

Q: Dear SIB: I’m moving into a new condo and the realtor said “just bring your toothbrush” – but what else do you think I’ll really need?

A: Plenty of sunscreen and commemorative Sunny Isles Beach towels for the beach; lots of recent Sunny Isles Beach Sun issues and a computer to log onto the city’s website www.sibfl.net so you can be up to date on city happenings; and a store directory so if a friend says, “Meet me at the RK Shopping Center” – you’ll know which one they mean.

Q: Dear SIB: How can I make a smart investment in the city?

A:  Make Donald Trump an offer he can’t refuse to replace condos with oceanfront parks; open a Mercedes or SUV dealership; offer Mommy & Me classes; celebrate the city’s diversity by creating a food court with international restaurants; invent a way to expand the beach so there’s more than enough sand for all the beach chairs.

Q. Dear SIB: How long do you have to live in the city before learning interesting historical facts and knowing places to go and things to do around town?

A. Long enough to read the book or see the video about the city entitled “From Sandbar to Sophistication” or be among the first welcomed to the new Sunny Isles Beach Visitor Center on the first floor of Government Center (18070 Collins Avenue) open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Q: Dear SIB: What souvenirs should I get to remember my stay?

A: A t-shirt or postcard from the new Visitor Center;  a copy of condo rules and regulations or a City Commission meeting agenda packet the size of an encyclopedia in case you ever get insomnia; and a  pair of flip flops so when you’re wearing snow boots you’ll remember why everyone who visits Sunny Isles Beach wishes they could stay forever!
