The Cultural & Human Services department hosts events throughout the year, many of which are free. Here you will find a listing of the upcoming events, and any important information you should know in order to attend.

Sunny Serenade, May 27th, 2009 - FREE
7:30pm – 9:00pm, Samson Oceanfront Park (17425 Collins Avenue)
The city hosts the Sunny Serenade Concert Series from September thru May, at Samson Oceanfront Park, typically on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. These concerts are FREE and open to the public. The event includes live musical entertainment, and refreshments for sale. A different group is featured each month, and for the season finale, we are welcoming The Fabulons, a 1950’s Doo-Wop and classic rock band. Parking is available along the north side of 174th Street, and the city shuttle bus will be running the special events schedule.

Meet the Author, May 30th, 2009 - FREE
10:00am, Sunny Isles Beach Gov’t Center, First Floor Meeting Room (18070 Collins Avenue)
Author Euguenie Subak Kaye will present her new book, Shelly’s Sunburn, which teaches young people about courage under difficult circumstances. Children will enjoy a coloring project to help bring the process of reading and illustrating to life.

Bingo, June 3rd, 2009 – FREE
2:00pm, Sunny Isles Beach Gov’t Center, Commission Chambers (18070 Collins Avenue)
Come with friends and neighbors and enjoy some friendly games of bingo. Small prizes will be awarded to winners. This event is hosted in partnership with North Collins Bingo Palace. Participation is free but call ahead to reserve your seat (305.792.1706).

Four Seasons Concert, June 10th, 2009
7:30 – 9:00pm, Sunny Isles Beach Gov’t Center, Commission Chambers (18070 Collins Avenue)
This new concert series will be presented quarterly to help make classical music accessible for all ages in our community. This second installment of the series will present an International String Quartet. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Pelican Community Park, Community Center. Ticket price is $5.00 for residents, $10 for non-residents. Space is limited to register early!  

Golden Era Film Series, June 9th, 2009 – FREE
10:00am – 12:00pm, Pelican Community Park Community Center (18115 North Bay Road)
Come with friends and neighbors and enjoy a Golden Era classic film. Some previous showings include It’s A Wonderful Life, Viva Las Vegas, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. To find out this month’s feature film, contact us at 305.792.1706. This event is free, but you must call ahead to reserve your seat.

City’s 12th Anniversary Celebration, June 14th, 2009 – FREE
12:00pm – 4:00pm, Samson Oceanfront Park (17425 Collins Avenue)
Come and celebrate the City’s 12th Anniversary. This festive day will include live musical entertainment, food, games, rides, giveaways, and as always, good company! All residents are invited to join us for a special cake cutting ceremony in honor of the city’s 12 years of incorporation. Parking will be available along the north side of 174th Street. The City will be running special event shuttle buses throughout the city for your convenience. Check with Pelican Community Park for info on times.
