Resident Parking in Sunny Isles Beach

With the completion of the central island drainage project, city to resume strict enforcement of resident-only parking.

By Robert C. Solera, Community Development Director

The city of Sunny Isles Beach has been making improvements to its stormwater drainage system in the central area of the city – west of Collins Avenue from 183rd to 174th Streets.

The Central Island Drainage Project was undertaken to reduce flooding, facilitate traffic flow, provide lighting and landscaping, and, for pedestrian and bicyclist’s safety, create a ten-foot wide multipurpose path along North Bay Road.

During construction, the city temporarily removed all signs (including parking signs) in the central island area, and the Community Development Department has not been enforcing the resident parking requirements.

Since the project is close to completion, new parking signs are scheduled for installation. This article serves to notify everyone that once the parking signs are installed, parking enforcement in this area will resume.

Resident-only parking areas are on 180th and 181st Drives indicated by “Restricted Parking Decal Only” signs. To avoid a parking ticket, anyone parking in these areas must display a resident parking decal. (See the locations on the map in Figure 1.)

Parking 24-hours a day

With a resident parking decal, parking is allowed in these ‘restricted parking’ areas 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Purchase parking permits

If you don’t have a valid resident parking decal, now is the time to purchase one (see Figure 2) through the:

Community Development Department

Sunny Isles Beach Government Center, 3rd Floor

18070 Collins Avenue

Sunny Isles Beach, FL

Direct questions to staff at 305.792.1705.

Another area for resident parking

The city has opened a new Municipal Parking Lot at 175th Terrace and Atlantic Blvd. With a resident parking decal, parking in this metered lot is allowed overnight from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. without feeding the meter.  Be aware that even with a resident-only parking decal, the meter at the new Municipal Parking Lot must be fed between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Resident parking permit cost

Resident parking decals are $50.00 per month or $600 per fiscal year. Residents may purchase a decal on a monthly basis or for the entire fiscal year (October 1 – September 30). There is a $10 application fee.

Resident commercial or recreational vehicles permit

The city allows residents to park commercial/recreational equipment with two axles or less under the William Lehman Causeway Bridge in designated areas only with appropriate city permits. These parking permits are available through the Community Development Department. The application fee is $75 per fiscal year (October 1st – September 30th) with a monthly rate of $2.50 per foot length of vehicle, per vehicle to be measured by appointment.

Parking permit applications online

Applications for both the resident parking permit and the resident commercial/recreational equipment are available on the city’s official website at www.sibfl.net. On the left side of the home page, under Business, click on Code Enforcement. Links to both parking applications are there.

Strict parking enforcement

The Community Development Department Parking Division is responsible for Parking Enforcement in coordination with the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department.
