Be Sun Safe

Sun-safe Habits

In Florida, we spend significant amounts of time in the sun and so we need to increase our awareness of how much sun we get. Whether we are outside for work or recreation, sunscreen is a must for our skin. Applying sunscreen properly is important to the continued good health of our skin.

  • For the best protection, apply sunscreen 20 – 30 minutes before going outside.
  • If you swim or perspire remember to re-apply sunscreen and realize that drying with a towel also rubs off the sunscreen on your skin.
  • “Waterproof” sunscreen lasts for at least 80 minutes. “Water resistant” protection lasts for only 40 minutes.
  • Surfaces like water and sand increase your exposure to UV rays; use a higher SPF on your nose, eyelids and lips.
Do not use sunscreen on babies younger than 6 months; keep the little ones in the shade instead
