On Sunday, October 11, 2009 The Cat Network, with the cooperation of the City of Sunny Isles Beach Community Development Department, is sponsoring another Spayathon in Sunny Isles Beach. Once again hard-working volunteers will trap feral cats and bring them to the Miami Meow Mobile (a mobile surgical unit) for sterilization.
By advanced reservation, the public is invited to bring their cats for low-cost sterilization ($40). Generally, staff on the Miami Meow Mobile accepts cats that are eight weeks old, weigh two pounds or more and are in good health. Just make sure that the night before the cat has not had food or drink after midnight.
According to Spayathon organizer and volunteer, Lindsay Donzanti, “It is important that we work together to manage the cat population in the city. When The Cat Network sent their Meow Mobile to Sunny Isles Beach for the first Spayathon on September 6, 2009, Dr. Marc Kramer and his surgical assistant Eliana, carried out a staggering 62 sterilizations. The volunteers start trapping feral cats the night before the event and after the cats have been sterilized release them. This is the humane way of reducing the future feral cat population in the city.”
Besides neutering, the Miami Meow Mobile offers other services to the public for their cats that include:
- 3-in-1 vaccine.
- Feline Leukemia vaccine.
- Blood testing for Feline Leukemia, FIV, and Heartworm.
- Microchipping.
- De-worming.
- Frontline Plus and Heartgard Plus for Cats.
- Rabies vaccine.
