Antonio and Mayda Alonso of Winston Towers hold a copy of the Sunny Isles Beach Sun Community Newspaper at the entrance to Sitka, Alaska on August 23, 2009. According to Wikipedia the average daily temperature in Sitka for August is 62 degrees Fahrenheit. Sitka is located on the west side of Baranof Island, part of the Alaska Panhandle, and is the fourth-largest city by population in Alaska. Sitka is the only town in Southeast Alaska that faces the Gulf of Alaska head-on. When it was settled in 1799 the industries were gold mining and fishing. Now, the town is known for its flora and fauna. Day cruises and guided hiking trips are both big industries. Tourists can also see the area's many breathtaking views by taking sightseeing flights. Visitors can enjoy the various historic and educational locations or attend events such as the annual Jazz Festival or Whale Fest.
You too can appear in an issue of the paper. When you travel, take a copy of the Sunny Isles Beach Sun newspaper with you, pose with the paper in front of a landmark or with your group.
