On Friday October 30th, and Saturday, October 31st, the City of Sunny Isles Beach welcomed over 3,500 residents and guests to the annual Halloween celebration, Booogie by the Beach. Pelican Community Park was converted into an elaborate maze of fun and activities. Many waited patiently for their turn at carnival rides, located along 182nd Drive. Food vendors, including Kiwanis, Denny’s, and Trump International Beach Resort provided an assortment of goodies for our guests. The baseball field housed additional carnival rides, as well as craft tents, face-painting, a pumpkin patch for those fall photos, and the main stage, with D.J. music throughout the event. Inside the Phyllis and Raanan Katz Sports Center Gymnasium, guests received a trick-or-treat bag, and were invited to venture from table to table, and participate in carnival games, in search of their candy prizes. Visitors in the gymnasium stood with awe as they watched theatrical aerial performances from Animate Objects Physical Theater. These brightly costumed performers literally hung from the rafters of the gym, and amazed everyone with their flexibility and skill with theatrical sound and lighting. Performances took place every hour on both evenings of the event.
Finally, with almost 2,000 square feet of space, and 13 rooms, the Community Center of Pelican Community Park was converted into the spookiest Haunted House in town. Visitors cringed as they entered the dark hallways of our Surreal World on the 1st Floor. Those who dared could brave their way to the second floor and visit the “Sunny Isles Beach Deadly Family Circus”. Although frightful, the Haunted House had many return visitors.
The City of Sunny Isles Beach was pleased to see such a tremendous turn out from the community for this event, and is constantly thriving to provide our residents with opportunities for individuals of all ages to bond socially and attain a sense of community pride through well-planned events. We would like to thank the following sponsors for their support in helping to make this event a huge success: Luke’s Landscaping, Trump International Beach Resort, Southern Parking Inc., Epicure Market, KidPics Photography, Jungle Island, and Gallery Art.
