I cannot imagine the angst of a parent who just days before the most anticipated time of year for a child, Christmas, and there is “nothing” to give. To a small child, economic strife and recession doesn’t mean very much, they just don’t understand. But parents who were facing the prospect of such disappointment for their children and organizations designed to help kids in need, know that after 10 years, there is hope and somewhere to turn.
The 10th Annual Cops and Commissioners Toy Drive once again proved successful due to the benevolence and compassion and goodness of so many of you. Just one gift or toy from so many of you filled a child’s heart and hands on December 23rd when gifts were distributed after months of collection. Of course, a very special “Guest” arrived in the nick of time to present the gifts and take many photo-ops with the smiling little ones. Our gratitude to “Santa” for taking time from his busy schedule to again appear as the main celebrity on such a heartwarming and fun filled day.
This year more than ever before, the requests and demand for assistance were great. And because of the dedication of many and the generosity of so many, those needs were met.
Corporal Melissa Montesino again headed the Toy Drive and our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Chris Provost of the Wal-Mart in Miami Gardens who again came through and was so generous to our drive. Mr. Provost is a very special person who believes in giving back to the same community that support Wal-Mart and make them who they are!
Thanks also to the Sunny Isles Beach K-8 Community School students and faculty and the local Kiwanis Club who helped in one way or another to get the job done and turn disappointment into joy in the faces of our “littlest ones.” A special recognition again this year to Mr. Larry Feder who never forgets us in our endeavors to reach the autistic, hearing impaired and children with special needs have a Very Special Christmas as well.
Mostly, thanks to everyone of you, the condominiums, the businesses and the residents of this city who in some way, some how, rose above the “tough times” and the economic crisis and found a way to help a child during this Christmas Season. And even more, for helping a parent avoid the angst that disappointment brings, when we cannot do for our children. I hope and pray that your Holiday Season was a good one and I hope that 2010 will Bless You and Protect You for all the good you did in 2009! Thank You!
