100 Days At SIB K-8

By Dr. Annette Weissman, Principal SIB Community School

February 4, 2010 is a special day at SIBCS.  It is the 100th day of school and our kindergarten classes will celebrate with creative shirts and activities. We will all spend a part of the day reflecting on what we have accomplished and projecting the remainder of the year.

During the first 100 days of school

  1.  Many of our kindergarteners have learned how to read! Great
  2. Ms. Walton, Cafeteria Manager, and her staff have served over 9,000 lunches!
  3. Ms. Levinson, Media Specialist, and her staff have checked out 35,159 books!
  4. The PTSA has collected over $80,000 to support the students, teachers and the school!
  5. Teachers have entered over 45,000 grades in the electronic grade book!

Over the past 100 days, SIBCS, its students and staff, have also earned many honors.

  1. Ms. Christine Peck, Kindergarten Teacher, was a finalist for the Region II Teach of the Year.

Ms. Christine Peck, Kindergarten teacher at Sunny Isles Beach Community School, was honored as a finalist at the Region II Teacher of the Year Luncheon.  Ms. Peck is shown with school administrators, Dr. Annette Weissman, Principal; Ms. Sabrina Montilla and Ms. Michele Weiner, Assistant Principals.  The SIBCS faculty selected Ms. Peck as the Teacher of the-Year because she is an outstanding school leader, an exceptional educator, and a distinguished member of the staff.   Ms. Peck serves as the Kindergarten Chairperson, is a member of numerous committees in the school and in the community, and generously gives of her time and energy to support all the activities at the school.  When the Region II Teacher of the Year committee came to the school to interview and film Ms. Peck, they were most impressed with her students and her classroom.  SIBCS is very proud to have Ms. Peck as its educational ambassador.

  1. SIBCS was awarded $500.00 for its entry into the Dolphins Frenzy contest. We were  a Finalist
  2. Christian Romero, a 7th grade student, was the winner of the WalkSafe Poster Contest sponsored by the University of Miami School of Medicine.
  3. We celebrated National Literacy Week  with guest author Andrew Toffoli
  4. Students are recognized for excellence in Science at the Regional Science and Engineering Fair.

These are just a sampling of the many exciting things that take place every day at Sunny Isles Beach Community School.  We know that the next two quarters will continue to be filled with sound educational experiences that help our children and families grow and achieve.

Ms. Peck, Dr. Annette Weissman, Ms. Sabrina Montilla, Ms. Michele Weiner at the Region II Teacher of the Year Luncheon.  The students took to the field and created the Dolphin logo which was photographed from the fourth floor of the parking garage. Go Dolphins! Go SIBCS!

Dr. Weissman is shown with Cristian Romero, a 7th grade student, and Ms. Edna Chueiri, Art Teacher at SIBCS. Cristian’s poster won First Place in the WalkSafe Poster contest sponsored by the University of Miami, School of Medicine.  Andrew Toffoli, author of several books that teach history with a clever twist, visited SIBCS as part of the school’s celebration of National Literacy Week.
