Alayne Yeash and Foxie pose with the Sunny Isles Beach Sun Community Newspaper in front of the Penn State mascot, the Nittany Lion, near Rec Hall. The Pennsylvania State University was founded February 22, 1855 as a land grant college. Its first official name was the Farmers' High School of Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania and Michigan pioneered in the national movement to offer higher educational opportunities for all classes of society. Penn State’s main University Park campus is located in the geographic center of the state. There are a total of 19 campuses and 5 mission campuses (law, graduate, medical, technology, and world).
Total student enrollment is over 84,000 across the 24 campuses, placing Penn State among the ten largest public universities in our country. The University offers more than 160 majors and administers a $1.26 billion endowment (system wide).
