Youth Athletics

The Cultural & Community Services Department offers seasonal athletics year-round, for youth of all ages. Each program runs for a set period of time and meets once, twice or multiple times a week. Each program may only be offered during a specific season. Registration for all activities is held at Pelican Community Park, located at 18115 North Bay Road.

Youth Athletics: Summer 2019

Registration for Summer 2019 programs is currently open.  The City will cancel courses three days prior to the first class if enrollment is insufficient. Classes listed as free still require registration. When programs fill, a waitlist will be started. Cancellations must be received in writing at least seven days in advance in order to receive a refund. No refunds are issued once classes begin. *There are no classes on July 4.

Gymnastics
ages 5 -10

Basketball Academy
Introduces players to basic rules, skills, and key fundamentals required to play the game of basketball. Players are exposed to a variety of drills to develop or enhance conditioning, ball handling, passing and shooting ability. Intra-squad games are played to enforce skills acquired. Basketball Academy is recommended for players that seek to play in the City’s youth recreational basketball league, during the Winter season. Programs are run at Pelican Community Park, RK Sports Center Gymnasium, 18115 North Bay Road.

Basketball, Pee Wee
Provides a fun, nurturing and positive learning experience for young players to develop an interest in the exciting game of basketball. Participants will learn how to follow simple instructions, pass, catch, dribble and shoot. A variety of age-appropriate games are played to enhance lessons learned. Emphasis is on learning, friendship and fun!

Basketball: Drop-In League (Members Only)
Put together a team of five and compete in weekly basketball games. Points are awarded for each win. Prizes awarded to teams with the best record overall.

Budding Sports, Pee Wee
Includes introduction to sports for younger children, including basketball, soccer and tee-ball.

Cheer, Dance & Tumbling Clinic
Become an all-around cheer superstar in this all-in-one cheer based instructional program.

Cheer & Dance: Advanced
Participants enrolled in cheer and dance will learn a variety of cheers, motions, jumps, stunts and dances. Teamwork and uniformity are enhanced through a variety of fun activities, events, games and routines. Advanced Cheer and Dance is for participants with experience and skill required to compete in local or national competition. Try-outs are required for placement in Advanced Cheer & Dance. All cheerleaders will have the opportunity to showcase skills acquired during games or events. Fee includes uniform and competition.

Cheer & Dance: Recreational
Participants enrolled in cheer and dance will learn a variety of cheers, motions, jumps, stunts and dances. Teamwork and uniformity are enhanced through a variety of fun activities, events, games and routines. Recreational Cheer and Dance is designed for participants of all skill levels, no try-out is required. All cheerleaders will have the opportunity to showcase skills acquired during games or events.

Cheer: Tumbling, Advanced
Participants enrolled in Cheer: Tumbling will learn an advanced variety of cheers, motions, jumps, stunts and dances.

Cheer: Tumbling Intermediate
Participants enrolled in Cheer: Tumbling will learn a variety of cheers, motions, jumps, stunts and dances to prepare for Advanced Cheer.

Club Sports
Put a team together and compete with friends in flag football, soccer and volleyball! Standings will be kept to determine a champion and first place winners will receive a prize.

Dance: Ballroom
Participants will learn various dances including Rumba, Cha Cha, Jive, Samba, Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango and many more.

FAB Fitness
Help your child develop social, motor & teamwork skills twice a week at Fun Activity Based (FAB) Fitness!

Field Hockey
Offers participants the opportunity to learn skills required to play the exciting and fast-paced game of field hockey. Practices are designed to teach basic skill and techniques necessary to dribble, pass, shoot and defend. Games may be arranged based on the development of players or team.

Flag Football
Offers participants the opportunity to play American football without the physical contact. Participants will learn rules of the game, concepts, positions, fundamentals and teamwork. Development will be enhanced through a variety of drills, exercises and scrimmages. Mouthpiece recommended. Practices are run at Senator Gwen Margolis Park, 17815 North Bay Road.

KidoKinetics: Mommy & Me
Enjoy this introduction to sports with your child. Other classes will be available as well for ages 3 to 6.

Parents & Tots F.U.S.E. (Fun & Unique Sports & Exercise)
This new program allows parents to share in their little one’s first exposure to the fun and exciting world of exercise, gymnastics, and sports.

Soccer: Instructional
Provides a platform for players to develop or enhance confidence, skill, and ability needed for organized play at the recreational or competitive level. Lessons are designed to introduce players to the game of soccer at a pace to better understand and embrace the skill and teamwork required to play. Practices include a variety of drills, exercises and scrimmages. Shin guards and cleats required.

Soccer: SEAS League
Players perfect their team play and participate in tournaments. Open evaluations for soccer players interested in playing in the competitive division for the SEAS League & beyond. Waivers must be filled out prior to participation. Copies are provided on site. Players must wear athletic attire, cleats, and shin guards.

Soccer: SEAS Recreational
(ages 6-14)
Offers players the opportunity to develop and enhance skills required to become a team player and compete in local soccer games. Program focus is teamwork, skill development, concepts, rules and sportsmanship. Practices include a variety of drills, exercises and scrimmages. Shin guards required. Uniform provided. Games played each Saturday at Senator Gwen Margolis or Pelican Community Park. Game schedules will be distributed weekly. Schedules are also available online.

Soccer, Pee Wee
Participants will learn basic soccer fundamentals and skills through a variety of age-appropriate exercises, drills and games. Share in the joy and excitement your player will display as they are exposed to experiences that are both rewarding and fun! Participants should wear athletic wear and bring water!

Soccer SEAS Clinic
(ages 5 – 14)
Competitive soccer coached by Southeast Atlantic Soccer League (SEAS). SEAS features seasonal recreational and competitive leagues for youth.

Tiny Tots Soccer
Participants will learn basic soccer fundamentals and skills through a variety of age-appropriate exercises, drills and games. Share in the joy and excitement your player will display as they are exposed to experiences that are both rewarding and fun!

Yoga: Kids
Join us for our new Kids Yoga program and learn what it means to be a “yogi.” Practicing yoga can help improve a child’s strength, flexibility, and coordination. Yoga can also improve a child’s focus, self-esteem, and overall well-being.
