Youth Athletics

The Cultural & Community Services Department offers seasonal athletics year-round, for youth of all ages. Each program runs for a set period of time and meets once, twice or multiple times a week. Each program may only be offered during a specific season. Registration for all activities is held at Pelican Community Park, located at 18115 North Bay Road.

Spring 2019 Athletics:

Registration for Spring 2019 programs begins on Monday, February 4 for Residents/Members with a valid City-issued SIB Resident ID Card, and Monday, February 19 for Non-Residents/Non-Members.  The City will cancel courses three days prior to the first class if enrollment is insufficient. Classes listed as free still require registration. When programs fill, a waitlist will be started. Cancellations must be received in writing at least seven days in advance in order to receive a refund. No refunds are issued once classes begin. *There are no classes on April 20 or May 27.

Basketball, Pee Wee
Provides a fun, nurturing and positive learning experience for young players to develop an interest in the exciting game of basketball. Participants will learn how to follow simple instructions, pass, catch, dribble and shoot. A variety of age-appropriate games are played to enhance lessons learned. Emphasis is on learning, friendship and fun!

Basketball: Drop-In League (Members Only)
Put together a team of five and compete in weekly basketball games. Points are awarded for each win. Prizes awarded to teams with the best record overall.

Budding Sports, Pee Wee
Includes introduction to sports for younger children, including basketball, soccer and tee-ball.

Cheer, Dance & Tumbling Clinic
Become an all-around cheer superstar in this all-in-one cheer based instructional program.

Dance: Ballroom
Participants will learn various dances including Rumba, Cha Cha, Jive, Samba, Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango and many more.

Dance: Hip Hop Kids
Program will incorporate upbeat, high energy, rhythmic combinations that focus on body isolations combined with smooth or sharp movements.

FAB Fitness
Help your child develop social, motor & teamwork skills twice a week at Fun Activity Based (FAB) Fitness!

Field Hockey
Offers participants the opportunity to learn skills required to play the exciting and fast-paced game of field hockey. Practices are designed to teach basic skill and techniques necessary to dribble, pass, shoot and defend. Games may be arranged based on the development of players or team.

Flag Football
Offers participants the opportunity to play American football without the physical contact. Participants will learn rules of the game, concepts, positions, fundamentals and teamwork. Development will be enhanced through a variety of drills, exercises and scrimmages. Mouthpiece recommended. Practices are run at Senator Gwen Margolis Park, 17815 North Bay Road.

KidoKinetics: Mommy & Me
Enjoy this introduction to sports with your child. Other classes will be available as well for ages 3 to 6.

Parents & Tots F.U.S.E. (Fun & Unique Sports & Exercise)
This new program allows parents to share in their little one’s first exposure to the fun and exciting world of exercise, gymnastics, and sports.

Yoga: Kids
Join us for our new Kids Yoga program and learn what it means to be a “yogi.” Practicing yoga can help improve a child’s strength, flexibility, and coordination. Yoga can also improve a child’s focus, self-esteem, and overall well-being.
