Youth Programs

The Cultural & Community Services Department offers seasonal activities year-round, for youth of all ages. Each program runs for a set period of time and meets once or twice a week.  Registration for all activities is held at the Pelican Community Park Community Center, located at 18115 North Bay Road.

After School Care

Afternoon Fun Zone
This after-school care program is open to students of the Norman S. Edelcup SIB K-8 School only. Please call 305.792.1706 to find out more.

All Day Fun Zone (Teacher Planning Days)
No school? Kids can spend the day participating in various activities at an all-day care program. Fee includes all activities, lunch and a snack. Open to students of the Norman S. Edelcup SIB K-8 School only. Please call 305.792.1706 to find out more.


Camps

Summer Camp
(Ages 3 – 8th grade)
Summer Camp programs are available for tots through grade 8. A variety of Summer Camp programs are offered, from general day camps to sports camps, to music, art & technology camps.

Winter Break Camp
(grades K-8)
Campers will participate in various activities throughout the week, including field trips, arts & crafts, games, sports & more! Fee includes daily snack, two field trips and one lunch per week. Please call the Cultural and Community Services Department at Pelican Community Park at 305.792.1706.

Spring Break Camp
(grades K-8)

Seasonal Programs

Arduino Robotics
A hands-on program that uses Arduino Robots for kids to learn programming, electronics and more. Kids will build different types of robots, with similar Arduino boards that allow them to learn about sensors, motors and connections. Kids can program using a compatible Scratch 2-based software (Precoding) or as an Arduino device.

Cheer & Dance – Advanced
(ages 8-12)
Participants enrolled in cheer and dance will learn a variety of cheers, motions, jumps, stunts and dances. Teamwork and uniformity are enhanced through a variety of fun activities, events, games and routines. Advanced Cheer and Dance is for participants with experience and skill required to compete in local or national competition. Try-outs are required for placement in Advanced Cheer & Dance. Cheer & Dance – Recreational
(ages 6-12)
Participants enrolled in cheer and dance will learn a variety of cheers, motions, jumps, stunts and dances. Teamwork and uniformity are enhanced through a variety of fun activities, events, games and routines. Recreational Cheer and Dance is designed for participants of all skill levels, no try-out is required. All cheerleaders will have the opportunity to showcase skills acquired during games or events. Cheer: Tumbling
Prerequisite for Advanced Cheer
(ages 6-12)

Cheer, Dance & Tumbling Clinic
(ages 6-12)

Chess Club & Chess Club Drop In
(ages 6 -12)
Learn the game of chess and compete with other children. After studying the game of chess throughout the program, participants will compete in an end of season chess tournament. Please call the Cultural and Community Services Department at Pelican Community Park at 305.792.1706.

Coding by DBP Robotics
(grades 2 – 5)
Coding is an activity that teaches kids in a basic way how to learn fundamental programming concepts, like variables, loops, functions and principles of computational thinking. Please call the Cultural and Community Services Department at Pelican Community Park at 305.792.1706.

Electronics
This program will teach the basics of electronics. By the end of the program, anyone with an interest in basic electronics should be able to read a schematic and build a circuit using standard electronic components.

FAB Fitness
(ages 6-12)
Be active and develop coordination while playing exciting games!

Fine Arts: Youth
(ages 6 – 12)

Guitar
(ages 7-18)
Students must bring their own guitar. Lessons offered by a proficient guitar instructor. Learn the basics of playing the guitar or more advanced skills depending on your level of knowledge. Please call the Cultural and Community Services Department at Pelican Community Park at 305.792.1706.

Gymnastics
(ages 4 – 13)
Keep your child flexible and in shape with this fun and popular gymnastics class. Children will learn basic tumbling skills, as instructors teach children with varying skill levels. Hip Hop Kids
Learn hip-hop choreography in a fun, engaging and exciting environment. Students will learn and understand rhythm and musical beats while dancing to the latest music.  Call 305.792.1706 for more information.

Karate
(ages 5 – 14)
Group assignments are based on skill level as determined by the instructor. Learn balance, strength, and defense skills with this specialized martial art. Kidokinetics: Mommy & Me
(ages 18 mo. – 3 years)

Lego Robotics – Animation
(ages 6-12)

Lego Robotics: Aquatics
(ages 6-12)

Little Tsunami Sports
(ages 4 – 6)
Enroll your child in a sports program designed to reduce frustration, with age-appropriate skills, taught by experienced coaches. Participants will be instructed in the basics of three popular sports: basketball, soccer and t-ball.

Music Production
(ages 10 – 14)
Learn the basics to beat programming, making music, and mixing industry standard software This program is designed to teach students the basic methods of creating music on computerized software used on both Mac and PC.

Music Together
(ages infant – 5)

Musical Theater
(ages 7 – 13)
This program allows children interested in performing to work on learning one musical, which is performed at the end of the program. Parents & Tots F.U.S.E.
(ages 2 – 4)

Performing Arts Clinic
(ages 6 – 12)
Four-week clinic learning what it takes to perform in an SIB musical theater production.

Piano
(ages 6 – 12)

Stop Motion Animation
(ages 7 – 13)
Students learn the technology and software behind animation using stop-motion techniques. Please call the Cultural and Community Services Department at Pelican Community Park at 305.792.1706.

Video Production
(ages 10 – 14)
Participants will learn to capture footage for video, commercial and movie editing. Each student will be responsible for creating a project from beginning to end, from concept to final product.

Wacky Wild Science Program
(ages 6 – 12)

Yoga: Kids
(ages 8 – 14)
Join us for our new Kids Yoga program and learn what it means to be a “yogi.” Practicing yoga can help improve a child’s strength, flexibility, and coordination. Yoga can also improve a child’s focus, self-esteem, and overall well-being.
