City of Sunny Isles Beach Celebrates Veterans

Each year, the City of Sunny Isles Beach honors the heroes who have served our country in the military during the Veterans Day celebration. The Veterans Wall at Heritage Park, 19200 Collins Ave., displays the name of Sunny Isles Beach residents who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Since 2011, the City has accepted applications to nominate a veteran who resides in Sunny Isles Beach to be added to the Veterans Wall. In order to be recognized at the City’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 11, 2019, nominations must be submitted by Sept. 1, 2019.

Applications are available online at sibfl.net/veterans and nominators must submit proof of honorable discharge from military service and proof of residency in the City of Sunny Isles Beach. Print applications are also available at Pelican Community Park, 18115 North Bay Road, or the SIB Government Center, 18070 Collins Ave.

Another interesting opportunity for residents is through a local organization, Honor Flight South Florida, which celebrates the service of veterans. Honor Flight South Florida is a nonprofit organization that transports America’s veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices. The organization’s goal is to aid all veterans in America who are willing and able to board a plane or bus to visit their memorial.

Representatives from Honor Flight South Florida will be at some of our upcoming events, including the Sunny Serenade on August 21, where you can learn more information about the programs they offer, or you can visit honorflightsouthflorida.org.
