Miami-Dade Water & Sewer News Advisory

Miami-Dade Water & Sewer will be smoke testing sewer lines for the next four weeks.

The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (MDWASD) will be smoke testing the sewer lines in your area during the next four weeks.

The testing uses a non-toxic, non-staining smoke to identify leaks in the sewer lines.

It is not unusual to see this non-toxic smoke escaping from manholes. If you see smoke on your property or in your home, that means there is a leak in the plumbing system. Smoke may seep from piping underneath sinks and in the walls or the drain pipe leading from your home.

If you do see smoke, always call the Fire Department. MDWASD notifies the Fire Department of smoke test areas on a daily basis, however, it is important to let the professionals determine if it is a leak or a fire.

The smoke tests are helpful to the Department and to customers to detect leaks in the system. If you have any questions, please call the Communications Center at 305.274.9272.
