Plastic Free July

Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and communities. Take the Plastic Free July challenge and find ideas to inspire you at home, work, school, and within the community at plasticfreejuly.org.

Fill A Bag Stations

You can start your own beach cleanup any day of the week! Look for the Fill A Bag stations on the beach at the Pier Park, Samson Oceanfront Park and Bill Lone beach accesses. Reusable buckets hang from 6 foot posts and provide beachgoers with on-demand repurposed buckets to fill with trash during their strolls. Learn more at sibfl.net/fillabag.

Poster Contest Winners

In May, we held a Beach Beautiful Poster Contest, challenging our NSE/SIB K-8 students to create artwork showing how we can all help keep our beaches clean and free of litter. We received many excellent submissions, a testament to the dedication our NSE/SIB K-8 students have for preserving the environment. We are lucky to live in a city with a beach, and realize it is our responsibility, and the responsibility of all who visit, to keep our beach and ocean clean. We are pleased to announce the following winners for each grade as well as the overall winner:

Overall Winner

Congratulations to 4th grader Anna Chucheva, our overall winner of the Beach Beautiful Poster Contest! Her poster art and message, “Be a part of the solution, not the pollution,” is an excellent reminder that our individual choices have an impact on our environment and the most meaningful change happens when we work together. Look for her artwork on our Beach Beautiful social media post during the month of July.
