(Friday, September 2, 2016) – As you know, former Mayor Norman Edelcup created the Sunny Isles Beach Foundation for the benefit of Sunny Isles Beach. On July 25, 2016, Lynn M. Dannheisser, Executive Director, issued a final report to the City on the Foundation’s future operations.
After considering the results of an analysis by a national non-profit consultant and the results of the survey by AEA, the cultural master plan consultants, Chairman Edelcup and Ms. Dannheiser recommended and the Foundation Board agreed that going forward the Foundation may be strictly a grant-making entity with limited operations and fundraising activities. Not to worry though! The Foundation raised $750,000 in seed capital, and Norman Edelcup will continue to honor his $250,000 contribution to the Foundation being pad in consecutive $50,000 annual installments through 2019. To date, he has donated $1000,000. Consequently, funds will be available to the City for many years to come.
Although not yet finalized, it is expected that the Foundation will contribute or sponsor two City-produced events annually; assist in the support of, and the provision of office space to, the Sunny Isles Beach K-8 Community School Fund and SIB Social Seniors, both City-dedicated tax exempt organizations; continue to fund a portion of the Cultural Master Plan; and provide scholarships to aspiring art, dance and music students within the City.
Norman’s years of dedication and generosity to the citizens of Sunny Isles Beach continues to be appreciated.
