(Friday, April 24, 2015) – “Summertime and the livin’ is easy!” Those words from the famous George Gershwin aria are most appropriate for our community. This time of year, the traffic gets a little lighter and the weather gets a little nicer. For those of us who are fortunate enough to live here year round, the ocean becomes warm enough to enjoy again and most days become filled with boundless sunshine. We are all so fortunate to be living in a community that has incomparable weather, fantastic parks, 2 ½ miles of beach and wonderful programs and services.
As we move forward, we continue to build on enhancing our quality of life. In the works is a new civic center adjacent to City Hall that will provide for an expansion of our school and additional facilities to serve our seniors and community at large. We are working on acquiring more park land in the southern end of the city to continue the Intracoastal Park System to our southern border. The new Gateway Park is nearing completion at the Sunny Isles Boulevard entrance to our city. This park will be the new jewel of our park system with a fully dedicated stage for performances, a fountain and play area for children, and a new restaurant with banquet facilities. Also under consideration are pedestrian bridges over major roadways to make our city safer for our children, residents and guests. The first pedestrian bridge has been approved and will be built this year from Gateway Park over westbound Sunny Isles Boulevard.
We have several other projects about to start or that are in the planning phase. Everything we do has one goal in mind: to continue to strive for the quality of life in our community to be the best it can be. So with all our community has to offer perhaps we can now say the ‘livin’ is easy’ all the time, not just summertime! Enjoy!
