Politics is News

By Dana Goldman, Commissioner

(January 26, 2016) – I wish our residents a very Happy, Healthy and Joyous New Year. The Commission is ushering in the New Year with many important local initiatives: Gateway Park, Samson Park, 174th Street Drainage, Undergrounding, and more green space west of Collins.

While we rest comfortably in our beautiful beachside community, dramatic and extraordinary current events unfold around us and dominate news headlines. National and international political events are captured instantaneously through standard and alternative media outlets; the web, social media, and apps. There’s a vast reservoir of political news and an appetite for interpretation, analysis and perspective of current events, what they mean to us and how they impact our lives. On that note, following two popular “Lunch & Learn Series” in October 2015 and early January 2016, the SIB Learning Center welcomes back the ever captivating Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) Scholar Dr. Kurt F. Stone for the City’s Winter 2016 professorial line-up.

If you haven’t already attended Dr. Stone’s lively and insightful lectures, you are in for a treat! He is known as FIU’s lecturer, a political activist, actor, medical ethicist, ordained rabbi, and self-professed “world-class news junky”. Call 305.792.1706 for more information and to register.

As always, I welcome your feedback on the “Politics is News Course”, additional courses you would like through the new SIB Learning Center, and other important quality of life issues. Please contact me at 305.792.1700 or dgoldman@sibfl.net.
