On stage performance at Gateway Park

Looking Forward to a Special Sunny Isles Beach Jazz Fest

By George “Bud” Scholl, Mayor

(Tuesday, October 31, 2017) – This is the time of year when the weather gets a little cooler, another hurricane season comes to a close, and our annual Jazz Fest happens.

This is a big year for Sunny Isles Beach Jazz Fest for two reasons. The first is that our Jazz Fest will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year. The second is that we are holding our Jazz Fest at Gateway Park for the first time. It is only fitting that our venue is upgraded to the beautiful great lawn and stage at Gateway Park. Additionally, there is plenty of parking in the new parking garage on the west end of the park.

Given the special status of a 10th annual event, this year we decided to provide a little more variety in the line-up of entertainers, which we believe will appeal to a wider audience of our residents and guests. Jazz Fest will be headlined by Thee Spinners, a six- time Grammy-nominated group that has sold millions of records. Our second act, also a household name, is Cornell Gunter’s Coasters featuring Edwin Cook. The original Coasters were one of the few groups in rock history to straddle between music and comedy with such hits as Yakety Yak, Poison Ivy and Charlie Brown.

Our opening act is well-known local talent, Lourdes Valentin. She earned her degree here in South Florida and trained in classical, jazz, pop and musical theater giving her a unique perspective, which she brings to every performance. Our annual Jazz Fest is unique to our City and our region. It is within walking distance for many of our residents and with this year’s diverse lineup, it is sure to be a great evening. So this month, let’s all say farewell to hurricane season and attend the 10th Annual Sunny Isles Beach Jazz Fest on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Gateway Park. More details can be found on our website at SunnyIslesBeachJazz.com. Looking forward to seeing you there!
