Statement from Mayor Goldman on the Tragedy in Uvalde, Texas

(Thursday, May 26, 2022) – I was devastated to learn about Tuesday’s horrific tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. On behalf of the Sunny Isles Beach City Commission, our hearts are with the families of the victims and we pray that the community can heal during this difficult time. We grieve alongside you for the 21 lives that were taken away.

Our children should feel safe anywhere they go, especially within a place of learning. As a mother, it is unfathomable to think that your child may not come home when you drop them off at school. This should never happen.

We want to assure our children and families that the Police Department is on high alert. We remain vigilant and have increased visibility at our school and throughout the city to protect our children.
