Support for Ukraine

A Message from Mayor Dana Robin GoldmanMayor Dana Robin Goldman

On behalf of the Sunny Isles Beach Commission and City administration, we stand with Ukraine. Our hearts are with our residents, family members, friends and all who are in Ukraine right now surviving and fighting in this attack.

I am proud of our residents for showing their support for Ukraine, a place with many ties to our Sunny Isles Beach community. Though we may be divided in political ideologies or beliefs, we must stand united for peace and support those affected during this time.

We invite our community to aid in any way that you can. With many Ukrainian families forced to flee their home, there is much we can do to help, and not just in monetary donations. By staying informed with credible news sources, we can stop the spread of disinformation and amplify the truth. We must also show respect and kindness toward our neighbors of every nationality and not let this conflict divide us as a community.

If you are in a position to do so, we have identified a number of organizations that are providing aid and relief to the people of Ukraine, including our own Chabad in Sunny Isles Beach. In my conversation with Rabbi Kaller, he informed me he is using his network in Ukraine to provide transportation for those of all religious affiliations wishing to evacuate, along with armed security, food and medicine. Please see below for a list of organizations accepting donations for Ukraine.

How to Support Ukraine

Florida for Ukraine

Florida for Ukraine was founded by a group of patriotic, passionate young professionals with ties to Ukraine now based across Florida’s southeast. Their goal is to mobilize people in support of Ukraine, amplifying their voices in Florida, and building a visible and impactful bridge between Florida and Ukraine in terms of humanitarian aid, diplomatic support, and information resources. Florida for Ukraine is collecting monetary donations to directly support Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees.

Global Empowerment Mission

In March, the City of Sunny Isles Beach partnered with Global Empowerment Mission to collect donations to support Ukraine. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our community. We were able to collect enough provisions, from non-perishable foods to hygiene items and clothing, to fill nearly two SIBshuttle buses.

Monetary donations are also needed to provide displaced victims with hotel rooms and flights out of the country.
