Household Hazardous Waste

Many common household chemicals are unsafe to place out for collection with your household refuse. Help protect our drinking water supply and fragile environment by safely disposing of your household chemicals.

Miami-Dade County Home Chemical Collection Centers accepts oil based paints, pesticides, solvents, pool chemicals and other household items. The centers also accept latex paints that are still in liquid form; however, it is recommended that new paints or latex paint that is still in good condition be donated to neighbors or community groups. The centers are available to non-commercial residents only.

When delivering household chemicals to the Center, please remember:

• Pack all containers upright in sturdy boxes.
• Tighten lids and caps on all containers.
• Place leaking containers in larger container, along with an absorbent material such as newspaper.
• Make sure all containers are labeled. If the original label has fallen off, re-label it with the contents or any information you have, or label it “UNKNOWN CHEMICALS”.

Two Miami-Dade County Home Chemical Collection Centers allow residential customers to dispose of items that can otherwise potentially harm the environment. Certain home chemical products are also available free of charge.

Illegal Dumping

Illegal dumping is a serious crime that can harm the environment and negatively impact neighborhood aesthetics. Dumping things like tires, debris, old furniture and hazardous materials not only harms the environment and lowers property values, but results in millions of dollars spent on enforcement and cleanup costs.

If you witness an illegal dumping incident in progress, call 911. Never confront someone who is dumping. Instead, try to get the vehicle license number or at least a description of the vehicle used to commit the crime.

If an instance of illegal dumping has already happened, call 311.

You can also report neighborhood problems and code violations using 311Direct, Miami-Dade County’s mobile application. 311Direct can be downloaded for free in the iTunes store for Apple users or in the Google Play store for Android users.
