Scoot Safe

Sunny Isles Beach Safety Efforts

By Alex Lama, Vice Mayor

(Monday, March 4, 2024) – I am happy to be back with my first article of the year and would like to thank you for your continued support. I also wish you health and prosperity for 2024. I am excited to inform you, if you are not aware already, that in our commitment to improve the well-being of our community, the city has begun implementing two important safety efforts.

Scoot Safe! Sunny Isles Beach Program:

If you own and operate a motorized scooter, the city is now requiring you to register it. This new Ordinance intends to improve the current transit situation between scooters, automobiles, and pedestrians. The goal is to enhance security and safety for all residents by outlining a set of rules and best practices that will safeguard our scooter operators and residents alike. For more information and to register your scooter, please visit sibfl.net/scootsafe.

Police Dispatch Communication:

The city is installing signs with a QR code that, when scanned, will put you in direct communication with our Police Department to expedite and make the process more efficient. You will see this signage on our beaches and parks, which will also include emergency and nonemergency numbers to call. New police dispatch technology is also being implemented that will allow the caller to share their live location, pictures, and video with the Police Department.
