2023 College Scholarship Applications Now Available

Available to Sunny Isles Beach High School Seniors

Each year, the City of Sunny Isles Beach awards college scholarship money to well-deserving Sunny Isles Beach high school seniors. High school seniors enrolled in a public school or accredited private school are able to apply for these scholarships by filling out an application and writing a 200-300 word essay on a certain topic. Applicants must have been residents of Sunny Isles Beach for a year prior to January 1, 2023. Although there are only a limited number of scholarships available, we certainly encourage all students to apply.

This year, two new scholarships are available to students. Besides our annual Service Scholarships, we now award the Mayor Norman S. Edelcup College Scholarship for Excellence in the Arts and the Chief Fred A. Maas College Scholarship for Athletic Accomplishment. Seniors may apply for all three scholarships, but can only be awarded one. Each scholarship is worth $2,500.

Service Scholarships

Two deserving students will be awarded one $2,500 scholarship each. These students should display academic achievement and a passion for serving their community.

Mayor Norman S. Edelcup College Scholarship for Excellence in the Arts

One deserving student who exhibits a passion for the arts will be awarded one $2,500 scholarship.

Chief Fred A. Maas College Scholarship for Athletic Accomplishment

One deserving student who displays a passion for athletics will be awarded one $2,500 scholarship.

Applications

Students can apply by filling out an online application via the links above. Print applications are also available for pick-up at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center, 18070 Collins Avenue. Deadline

Applications must be complete and submitted by Tuesday, February 21, 2023 by 5 pm. Scholarship winners will be personally notified in March 2023. Formal award will be announced at the April 20, 2023 Regular City Commission Meeting.

Application Criteria

• Applicant must be a current resident of the City of Sunny Isles Beach for a minimum of one year prior to January 1, 2023.
• Applicant must be a graduating high school senior enrolled in a public school or an accredited private school.
• Applicant perform a minimum of 100 hours of community service by January 1, 2023, preferably with the City of Sunny Isles Beach.
• Applicant must be accepted into an accredited college or university.
