Attention Students and Parents of NSE / SIB K-8 Help Us Keep Your Children Safe!

By Bill Foy, Transportation Supervisor

(May 6, 2015) When the Norman S. Edelcup / Sunny Isles Beach K – 8 opened in 2008, the Community Shuttle Bus program had a new clientele, students. This boosted ridership, led to some schedule adjustments and the need to more strictly enforce some rules.

In order to provide the best possible free service to our residents, it is mandatory that all children younger than middle school utilize the shuttle service with a chaperone. This is in effect for everyone’s safety. Driving a bus in city traffic requires a Driver’s full attention. The Driver cannot be responsible for children as well. This procedure will prevent children from getting lost, hurt, or injured and create a safer environment for all; passengers, pedestrians and other motorists.

So as a parent, what are your choices? You can ride the bus with your child. You can partner with a friend or neighbor to chaperone each other’s children. You can transport them by car either yourself or again, carpool with a neighbor. You can register early next year for the Miami-Dade County Public School provided courtesy bus. It fills up quickly. School buses have bus monitors on the bus to assist the driver with any problems.

Help us keep the Community Shuttle Bus program safe and free for all to enjoy by following this simple rule. Help our Driver’s focus on driving. Any questions call Cultural and Community Services at 305.792.1706.
