Senior Programs

The Cultural & Community Services Department offers programs for seniors that are held at Pelican Community Park. Registration for all programs, classes, and activities take place AT Pelican Community Park, located at 18115 North Bay Road.

Senior Programs

AARP Driver Safety Course (Fee-Based)
This six-hour refresher course helps you learn the effects of aging on driving and how you can adjust your driving to compensate. This course is usually offered once a year in January.

AARP Tax Preparation & Filing (Free)
Knowledgeable volunteers from AARP’s Tax-Aide Foundation will help you file your taxes for FREE! Bring all your documents and get your taxes done early! This service is offered on Wednesdays beginning in February until the end of the tax deadline.

Win cash prizes, gift cards, and merchandise, twice a month at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center. Cost is $2.00 per person.

Blood Drive
Community Blood Centers of South Florida organizes Blood Drives at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center.

Bridge Club (ages 55+)
Master your bridge skills and learn to develop game strategies from experienced players. A great way to meet new people and of course, have fun.

SIBshuttle Service (Free)
Easy, clean, comfortable, and handicap accessible bus service offered 7 days a week. The SIBshuttle takes you around town, to Aventura, and the Intracoastal Mall. This service also connects to North Miami Beach and Aventura shuttle buses. Community shuttle bus schedules are available at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center, Pelican Community Park and online. You can also track the shuttle in real time by downloading our SIBshuttle app for your smartphone or device.

Cultural Event Trips (Fee-Based)
The Cultural & Community Services Department plans and organizes monthly cultural trips to different destinations around South Florida. Costs for these trips vary depending on the event, but residents who present their Resident ID Card receive a discount! Bus transportation is provided to and from the events with pick up and drop off at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center.

Dancing Through Life (ages 55+)
Get moving and join us for an hour of different dance music and moves! All skill levels welcome!

Golden & Modern Era Movies
Get together with your friends and neighbors for lunch and a movie. Each month we play a classic or modern movie and serve lunch. This event is free for Resident ID Card holders, and $5.00 for those without a card.

Heartsaver CPR Course (Free)
Learn basic CPR skills, rescue breathing techniques, choking prevention and key treatment of emergencies.Participants will receive a Heartsaver Card from the American Heart Association upon completion of the course. This course is usually offered once a year, in January.

Mahjong (ages 55+)
Join us for some conversation, make new friends and enjoy this timeless Chinese game of skill and strategy.

Mini-FLOW (Fee-Based)
Get a new, duplicate or renewal of your Florida ID Card or a duplicate or renewal of your Florida Driver’s License. This service is offered every month on the first or second Friday from 9:30 am – 2:00 pm and is conveniently located in the 1st Floor Meeting Room at the Government Center. There are no reservations required and standard state licensing fees apply. Check out the latest edition of Sunny Isles Beach Living to confirm dates.

Mobile Library Services from Miami-Dade County (Free)
The mobile library comes to your neighborhood in Sunny Isles Beach on Tuesdays, Noon – 1:00 pm at Winston Towers 100, 250-174th Street.

Mount Sinai Blood Pressure, Glucose Screening & Cholesterol Screening (Free)
Check your blood pressure and glucose levels with this FREE service offered by Mount Sinai Medical Center every month at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center.
*Cholesterol screening is offered twice a year, in January and July.

Mount Sinai Medical Center Lecture Series (Free)
A monthly lecture series featuring medical professionals from Mount Sinai Medical Center discussing various topics related to your health and well-being. This series is provided as a service to the residents of Sunny Isles Beach as part of the community outreach of the Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Mount Sinai Transportation Services (Free)
Transportation provided to and from Mount Sinai Medical Center at 4300 Alton Road on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Pick up at 9:00 am and 12:00 pm and returning 12:30 pm and 4:00 pm Reservations required at 305.792.1706.

SIB Education Course: Politics is News With Dr. Kurt Stone
Explore behind the scenes of the political chess game in this 4-week education course This lecture is held by Dr. Kurt Stone.

SIB Social Seniors
Monthly meetings & trips organized by the Social Seniors Committee.

Strength & Resistance (ages 55+)
Get active with us for a low impact class to improve posture, balance, range of motion, flexibility and muscle strength. For more information call the Cultural & Community Services Department at Pelican Community Park at 305.792.1706.

Sunny Serenade Concerts (Free)
Good music and good company under the stars at our City’s premier parks.

Tai Chi (ages 55+)
Try this ancient form of exercise that can help maintain strength, flexibility, and balance. All skill levels welcome. For more information call the Cultural & Community Services Department at Pelican Community Park at 305.792.1706.

Walk With Ease (Free)
Get your body moving and improve your health as you walk around the park with friends and neighbors. Walkers meet at Senator Gwen Margolis Park. Participants must register at Pelican Community Park, 18115 North Bay Road. Direct questions to 305.792.1706.
