Senior Programs

The Cultural & Community Services Department offers programs for seniors that are held at Pelican Community Park. Registration for all programs, classes, and activities take place AT Pelican Community Park, located at 18115 North Bay Road.

Senior Programs: Reoccurring

AARP Driver Safety Course (Fee-Based)
This six-hour refresher course helps you learn the effects of aging on driving and how you can adjust your driving to compensate. This course is usually offered once a year in January. View the event calendar to see the upcoming service.

AARP Tax Preparation & Filing (Free)
Knowledgeable volunteers from AARP’s Tax-Aide Foundation will help you file your taxes for FREE! Bring all your documents and get your taxes done early! This service is offered on Wednesdays beginning in February until the end of the tax deadline. View the event calendar to see the upcoming service.

Bingo
Win cash prizes, gift cards, and merchandise, twice a month at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center. Cost is $2 per person. View the event calendar to see the upcoming event.

Blood Drive
Community Blood Centers of South Florida organizes Blood Drives at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center. View the event calendar to see the upcoming service.

SIBshuttle Service (Free)
Easy, clean, comfortable, and handicap accessible bus service offered 7 days a week. The SIBshuttle takes you around town, to Aventura, and the Intracoastal Mall. This service also connects to North Miami Beach and Aventura shuttle buses. Community shuttle bus schedules are available at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center, Pelican Community Park and online. You can also track the shuttle in real time by downloading our SIBshuttle app for your smartphone or device.

Cultural Event Trips (Fee-Based)
The Cultural & Community Services Department plans and organizes monthly cultural trips to different destinations around South Florida. Costs for these trips vary depending on the event, but residents who present their Resident ID Card receive a discount! Bus transportation is provided to and from the events with pick up and drop off at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center.

Golden & Modern Era Movies
Get together with your friends and neighbors for lunch and a movie. Each month we play a classic or modern movie and serve lunch. This event is free for valid City-issued SIB Resident ID Card holders, and $5 for those without a card. View the event calendar to see the upcoming showings.

Heartsaver CPR Course (Free)
Learn basic CPR skills, rescue breathing techniques, choking prevention and key treatment of emergencies. Participants will receive a Heartsaver Card from the American Heart Association upon completion of the course. This course is usually offered once a year, in January.  View the event calendar to see the upcoming service.

Mini-FLOW (Fee-Based)
Get a new, duplicate or renewal of your Florida ID Card or a duplicate or renewal of your Florida Driver’s License. This service is offered every month on the first or second Friday from 9:30 am – 2:00 pm and is conveniently located in the 1st Floor Meeting Room at the Government Center. There are no reservations required and standard state licensing fees apply. View the event calendar to see the upcoming service.

Mobile Library Services from Miami-Dade County (Free)
The mobile library comes to your neighborhood in Sunny Isles Beach on Tuesdays, Noon – 1:00 pm at Winston Towers 100, 250-174th Street.

Mount Sinai Blood Pressure, Glucose Screening & Cholesterol Screening (Free)
Check your blood pressure and glucose levels with this FREE service offered by Mount Sinai Medical Center every month at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center. View the event calendar to see the upcoming service.
*Cholesterol screening is offered twice a year, in January and July.

Mount Sinai Medical Center Lecture Series (Free)
A monthly lecture series featuring medical professionals from Mount Sinai Medical Center discussing various topics related to your health and well-being. This series is provided as a service to the residents of Sunny Isles Beach as part of the community outreach of the Mount Sinai Medical Center.  View the event calendar to see the upcoming lecture.

Mount Sinai Transportation Services (Free)
Transportation provided to and from Mount Sinai Medical Center at 4300 Alton Road on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Pick up at 9:00 am and 12:00 pm and returning 12:30 pm and 4:00 pm Reservations required at 305.792.1706.

SIB Social Seniors
Monthly meetings & trips organized by the Social Seniors Committee.

Sunny Serenade Concerts (Free)
Good music and good company under the stars at our City’s premier parks. View the event calendar to see the upcoming concert.

Senior Programs: Spring 2019

Registration for Spring 2019 programs begins on Monday, February 4 for Residents/Members with a valid City-issued SIB Resident ID Card, and Monday, February 19 for Non-Residents/Non-Members.  The City will cancel courses three days prior to the first class if enrollment is insufficient. Classes listed as free still require registration. When programs fill, a waitlist will be started. Cancellations must be received in writing at least seven days in advance in order to receive a refund. No refunds are issued once classes begin. *There are no classes on April 20 or May 27.

This gentle form of yoga is practiced by sitting on or standing using a chair for support. This slow-paced, off-the-floor program is great for balance and confidence. Participants who miss two consecutive classes will be removed from the class roster.
