Senior Programs

The Cultural & Community Services Department offers Senior activities that are held at the Pelican Community Park Community Center. Registration for all programs, classes and activities take place AT Pelican Community Park, located at 18115 North Bay Road.

AARP Driver Safety Course (Fee-Based)
This six-hour refresher course helps you learn the effects of aging on driving and how you can adjust your driving to compensate. This course is usually offered once a year in January.

AARP Tax Preparation & Filing (Free)
Knowledgeable volunteers from AARP’s Tax Aide Foundation will help you file your taxes for FREE! Bring all your documents and get your taxes done early! This service is offered on Wednesdays beginning in February until the end of the tax deadline.

Annual Anniversary Party (Free)
A City celebration held annually in June at Samson Oceanfront Park with fun, games, offshore boat races and entertainment for the entire family.

Win cash prizes, gift cards, and merchandise, twice a month at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center. Cost is $2.00 per person.

Blood Drive
Community Blood Centers of South Florida organizes Blood Drives at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center.

Bridge Club
Master your bridge skills and learn to develop game strategies from experienced players, meet new people and of course, have fun. For ages 55+

Community Shuttle Bus Service (Free)
Easy, clean, comfortable, and handicap accessible bus service offered 7 days a week around town and to Aventura and Intracoastal Malls. This service also connects to North Miami Beach and Aventura shuttle buses at the SIBshuttle signs. Community Shuttle Bus schedules are available for pick up at Sunny Isles Beach Government Center, 18070 Collins Avenue or at Pelican Community Park, 18115 North Bay Road or online.

Cultural Event Trips (Fee Based)
Each month the Cultural & Community Services Department organizes a trip, show, or event to a different South Florida venue. Ticket prices vary depending on the trip. Reservations are accepted on a first-come first serve basis.

Dancing Through Life
Get moving and join us for an hour of different dance music and moves! All skill levels welcome! For ages 55+.

FTRI Telephone Demo & Distribution (Free)
This giveaway is for eligible residents with a certified hearing loss, and is provided by the Hearing & Speech Center of Florida. To RSVP for the next event, call 786.406.7426.

Golden Era Film Series
Get together with your friends and neighbors for lunch and a movie. Each month we play a movie and serve lunch, part of our ‘Golden Era Film Series’. This event is free for Resident ID Card holders, and $5.00 for those without a card.

Heartsaver CPR Course
Learn basic CPR skills, rescue breathing techniques, choking prevention and key treatment of emergencies. This course is usually offered once a year, in January. This is a FREE course!

Living Healthy, A Matter of Balance, and Diabetes Workshops
Provided by Alliance for Aging, these workshops will teach you new and healthy ways to care for your health and improve your quality of life. Registration is required in-person at Pelican Community Park.

Come join us for some conversation, make some new friends and enjoy this timeless Chinese game of skill and strategy. For ages 55+.

Mini-FLOW (Fee-Based)
Get a new, duplicate or renewal for your Florida ID Card or a duplicate or renewal of your Florida Driver’s License. This service is offered every month on the first or second Friday from 9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and is conveniently located in the 1st Floor Meeting Room at the Government Center. There are no reservations required and standard state licensing fees apply. Check out the latest edition of Sunny Isles Beach Living to confirm dates.

Mobile Library Services from Miami-Dade County (Free)
The mobile library comes to your neighborhood in Sunny Isles Beach on Tuesdays, Noon – 1:00 p.m. at Winston Towers 100, 250-174th Street.

Mount Sinai Blood Pressure, Glucose Screening & Cholesterol Screening (Free)
Check your blood pressure and glucose levels with this FREE service offered by Mount Sinai Medical Center every month at the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center.
*Cholesterol screening is offered twice a year, in January and July.

Mount Sinai Medical Center Lecture Series
A monthly lecture series featuring medical professionals from Mount Sinai Medical Center discussing various topics related to your health and well-being. This series is provided as a service to the residents of Sunny Isles Beach as part of the community outreach of the Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Mount Sinai Transportation Services (Free)
Transportation provided to and from Mount Sinai Medical Center at 4300 Alton Road on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays pick up at 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and returning 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Reservations required at 305.792.1706.

SIB Education Course: Politics is News With Dr. Kurt Stone
Explore the behind the scenes of the political chess game in this 4 week education course This lecture is held by Dr. Kurt Stone.

SIB Social Seniors
Monthly meetings & trips organized by the Social Seniors Committee.

Strength Circuit
Get active with us and join our strength circuit group! This class will incorporate light weights, balance techniques and resistance training to improve overall well-being. For ages 55+.

Sunny Serenade Concerts (Free)
Good music and good company under the stars at Heritage Park on designated Saturdays each season.

Tai Chi

Walking Club (Free)
During the winter season. Open to all ages, the club meets at Gwen Margolis Park and walks for an hour. Participants must register at Pelican Community Park, 18115 North Bay Road. Direct questions to 305.792.1706.
