Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)

The City of Sunny Isles Beach (City) is seeking qualified applicants to form the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). This is an opportunity for school-aged residents to work closely with their local government on issues related to the youth in our community.

What Does the YAC Do?

The goal of the YAC is to provide the City Commission with a youthful perspective on issues that affect the City of Sunny Isles Beach and its young residents.  They will be provided with opportunities to volunteer and take initiative on projects that will help to promote a positive change in the community. The YAC will also be provided with positive experiences that nurture self-esteem, reinforce positive attitudes, and are meaningful to both the individual and the community.

Members of the YAC will serve a one-year term through December 31, 2023.

Meetings will be scheduled at least two weeks in advance and held on a mutually convenient date. Members must be willing to comply with procedures and requirements for all City Advisory Boards, including but not limited to, Sunshine and Public Records Law.

Who Should Apply?

Committee members will work on a pro bono basis and should meet the following requirements:

  • Applicant must be a Sunny Isles Beach resident to apply.
  • Be between the ages of 13 and 18;
  • Enrolled in a local middle school, high school, or a Florida accredited virtual school; and
  • Have the ability and disposition to attend monthly meetings;
