Office of the City Clerk – Lobbyist Registration

A Guide to Lobbying in the City of Sunny Isles Beach

On July 20, 2006, the Sunny Isles Beach adopted Ordinance No. 2006-260 (“Lobbyist Registration Ordinance”), which establishes new regulations for lobbying in the City. The new Lobbyist Registration Ordinance was designed to streamline the City’s lobbyist registration process. It is clear, concise, and addresses many of the extenuating circumstances that have occurred in the past, under the old ordinance.

The most significant change under the new Ordinance is that lobbyist registrations are due annually, in the amount of $250, and paid before engaging in any lobbying activities in the City. Additionally, the principal (client) registration has been changed to be due annually, in the amount of $100, and paid before engaging in any lobbying activities. There is no longer a per topic charge for each client. Further, all lobbyist registrations and principal registrations expire on December 31st of each year, and the filing date for Lobbyist Expenditure Reports has been changed to “by January 15th of each year.”

Overall, the Lobbyist Ordinance remains unchanged, and there are still reporting requirements for withdrawing as a lobbyist, as well as disclosure of fees.

No individual/firm will be permitted to lobby City Officials, Staff, Boards, Committees, etc. without first having registered as a Lobbyist with the City of Sunny Isles Beach.
