Commissioner Fabiola Stuyvesant Appointed to Lead National League of Cities’ Council on Youth, Education, and Families (YEF Council)

(January 26, 2024)Fabiola Stuyvesant, Commissioner, Sunny Isles Beach, FL, has been appointed as Vice Chair of the National League of Cities (NLC) 2024 Council on Youth, Education, and Families (YEF Council). Commissioner Stuyvesant was elected to a one-year term to develop and guide programs among local elected officials from similar communities. The appointment was announced by NLC President Mayor David Sander of Rancho Cordova, CA.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to take a leadership role in the National League of Cities Council on Youth, Education, and Families. As a mother, a former university professor, and a fierce advocate of our education system, I look forward to bringing Florida’s strong conservative values to the Council” Commissioner Stuyvesant stated.

As Vice Chair of NLC’s YEF Council, Commissioner Stuyvesant will play a key role among a diverse group of local leaders to encourage collaboration, networking, and the development of resources and programs beneficial to communities that share demographics, size or location that can be replicated across the country.

“Our member councils play an integral role in NLC’s work, bringing local leaders together to share ideas and inform NLC policy about the issues and challenges facing every kind of community in America,” said NLC President Mayor David Sander of Rancho Cordova, CA. “I’m excited to have Commissioner Stuyvesant lead NLC’s YEF Council. Under her leadership, the council will ensure that all of our cities, towns and villages have access to ideas and resources they can use to thrive.”

This year’s council will be led by Chair Mayor Pro Tem Jessica Daniels Harrison, Town of Zebulon NC; Vice Chair Lawanna Owens-Twaites, Councilmember, Union City, GA; Vice Chair Stephanie Moon Reynolds, Councilmember, Roanoke, VA; and Vice Chair Fabiola Stuyvesant, Commissioner, Sunny Isles Beach, FL.
