Sunny Isles Beach Skate Park Moves to Miami-Dade County’s Haulover Park with Expanded Hours

(June 17, 2016)With the mangrove mitigation project at Town Center Park ready to commence, the City of Sunny Isles Beach partnered with Miami-Dade County to build a skate park at Haulover Park. It was agreed that this central location makes it easier than ever for surrounding municipal neighbors to share in the skate boarding fun.

The State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection required that the City increase the mangrove acreage in the area of Town Center Park. It became apparent that to accomplish this, the skate park would have to be re-located. The City of Sunny Isles Beach worked with Miami-Dade County to establish a countywide skate park. Goals of the new park included: expanded hours, lower cost and open to all county residents. The resulting park is free for all to use, excepting the parking fee if patrons arrive via vehicle. Skateboarding, biking and pedestrian access are free.

If this skate park becomes a successful project, there is opportunity through Miami-Dade County Parks to expand other aspects of Haulover Park, for example: as was done with the dog park, in accordance with a projected park redevelopment plan. The redevelopment of this park would benefit all surrounding municipalities, visitors and residents alike.

The new skate park at Haulover opened in June. The best part? More hours and it’s free to use! Effective, Sunday, June 12, 2016, Town Center Skate Park in the City of Sunny Isles Beach was permanently closed. The address of the new countywide skate park location, Haulover Park, is 10800 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33154.
