(April 28, 2014) – On Friday, April 25, 2014, the City of Sunny Isles Beach officially opened Intracoastal Parks at the South end of the City. The linear parks, located from 160 to 161 Streets along Collins Avenue, overlook a beautiful waterway and include walking paths, play areas, benches and tables, along with artwork by Valeria Yamamoto.
Valeria Yamamoto is a Japanese-Argentinean artist, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is trained in graphic design and furthered her education in sculpture, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Florida International University. Her abstract work reminds viewers of both the plant and animal kingdoms. Pieces of her work have been chosen to appear in exhibitions across the country.
Two pieces, Rain and Seawhisper, are installed in the northern park. This part of the Intracoastal Parks is dedicated to the Alex A. Koslovsky Family. The southern park, dedicated to the Steiger Family, contains a sculpture named Converge. Both sections of the park offer relaxing natural vistas in addition to the inspired artwork created by Yamamoto.
